Hugh Macdonald is Emeritus Professor of Music at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri and he currently lives in Norwich, England. He was born in Newbury in 1940. After study at Cambridge University he was on the faculties of Oxford and Cambridge Universities before being named Professor of Music at Glasgow University in 1980. From 1987 until his retirement in 2011 he was Avis Blewitt Professor of Music at Washington University.
